AN apprentice who hit a man he played pool with has been ordered to pay £750.

Graeme Jarrett, 25, of Windmill Knowe, Crossgates, assaulted his victim at The Barley Sheaf in Dunfermline.

He previously admitted on April 20 at The Barley Sheaf, Evershed Drive, he did assault a man and did strike him on the body to his injury.

Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday that the complainer and accused were both known to each other because they played pool in the local area.

The victim was smoking outside the pub when Jarrett came walking towards him, striking him on the body and leaving the complainer with a bruised shoulder.

Police attended Jarrett's home the next day when they were made aware of the circumstances.

Defence solicitor, Gordon Martin, said his client had one conviction and was in full time employment as an apprentice.

He said Jarrett and the complainer had been in contact with each other since the incident last year and there had been no further problems.

Sheriff Charles Macnair said: "This was an assault in the vicinity of a public house which is always a danger because of the danger of violence spreading."

Jarrett was fined £450 and ordered to pay another £300 in compensation.
