OVER 65s in Crossgates are going to get a special Winter Treat this year.

The village's community council is in the process of setting up the event and is currently seeking out funding sources.

The community council's John Wylie has been put in charge of piecing the event together and he is looking for over 65s in the village to put their name and addresses into the boxes which will soon be appearing at the Premier Stores in Main Street and Mossgreen.

Said John: "We know that a number of other community councils organise Christmas type events for their senior citizens and we felt we could should do likewise.

"We have already made approaches to the likes of Shell and Exxon, at Mossmorran, and the Cowdenbeath Area Committee, for support and we are also appealing to the business community of the village to back it."

The community council hope to get upwards of 70 veterans from the village at the event, which will be held at the end of November at Lodge St John 540's function hall, in Inverkeithing Road.

Added John: "The boxes will be left in the Premier Stores, run in the village by Robert Kirkwood, between the start of April and mid June and we would ask over 65s to leave their names and addresses and contact details in them.

"This is a first for Crossgates Community Council and we want it to be a big success and it will include a meal and entertainment."

The expected cost of the event to the organisation is expected to be around £1,100 and if any village business would like to sponsor it John can be contacted on 01383 513531.
