A HEALTHY breakfast initiative put smiles on the faces of youngsters at Crossgates Primary School last week.

Every class was treated to a delicious breakfast filled with healthy treats.

Robert Kirkwood, who runs two Premier shops in Crossgates and Mossgreen, was eager to show children the benefits of starting the day right.

He said: "It's important to teach kids how important breakfast is. It sets them up for the rest of the day and it can make a big difference.

"It was such a great day seeing all the smiles on their faces.

"Some of them had never even tried a pear before, or a segment of fresh orange. Some were a little hesitant and nervous at first, bit it was a joy to behold seeing them give the thumbs up!"

Robert teamed up with the Scottish Grocers’ Federation (SGF) Healthy Living Programme, sponsored by the Scottish Government, to bring the initiative to the school.

More than 200 kids from P1 to P7 were given fresh fruit and cereal last Thursday, and Robert was delighted with how it was received.

He added: "It was such good fun and all the teachers were very supportive. It was a great day and most enjoyable for me."
