A CHRISTMAS carol sung by Crossgates Primary School pupils has transformed into a fundraising appeal for children in Malawi.

The school was chosen as one of ten to record a song with Boogie and Arlene from the Forth FM breakfast show, 'Boogie in the Morning', which will air on the radio in the run-up to Christmas.

The kids were tasked with singing 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' and after researching where the tune originated, they decided to raise money for charity.

Four youngsters were also interviewed on what Christmas meant to them and their favourite festive jokes.

Claire Wright, acting deputy headteacher, said: "They found the song online and became very interested in the reasons behind it.

"As Beath High School formed a link with a Malawian school in 2009, they wanted to raise money to pay for jotters and pencils to send out there; it's really grown arms and legs!

"Some of the kids' older brothers and sisters have actually went out to Malawi before, and will be having a special assembly to talk to the kids about their experience.

"I'm very proud of the children and the whole school community for coming together in such an exciting way. It's superb."
