THE northbound A92 between Halbeath Roundabout and Crossgates Roundabout is set to benefit from resurfacing upgrades as a £165,000 project gets underway from Monday night.

The improvements will start on Monday November 6 for four nights between 7.30pm and 6.30am each night and will involve resurfacing almost 600m of the northbound carriageway between Halbeath Roundabout and Crossgates Roundabout, as well as the renewal of the road markings.

The improvements will address any defects in the carriageway and ensure that the road remains in a safe working condition for years to come.

To keep roadworkers as well as motorists safe, traffic management will be in place each night during the project.

A 40mph contraflow system will be in place on Monday night which will affect both the northbound and southbound carriageways, and following this a 10mph convoy system will be in place on the northbound carriageway only. The southbound carriageway will reopen as normal from Tuesday night during the project.

For safety, M90 off-slip traffic will be diverted via the southbound M90 to Junction 1 Admiralty then onto M90 northbound to Junction 3. Trunk road traffic on Halbeath Roundabout for the A92 will be diverted locally and signs will be erected in advance to advise motorists. The restrictions will be in place between working hours only each night with all traffic management lifted during the daytime.

Consultation has taken place with the local authority, businesses, local residents and bus operators in advance of the resurfacing to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Overnight lane closures will be in place on Sunday 5 November to allow teams to set up the traffic management arrangements ahead of the resurfacing beginning on Monday night.

Commenting on the improvements, Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative said: “These works between Halbeath and Crossgates will improve the northbound side of the A92, creating a much smoother and safer road surface for motorists.

“We’ve arranged the works to be carried out overnight to minimise impact on road users.

“We’ve also been working closely with the Local Authority to ensure that access will be maintained for buses at all times, however we encourage all road users to follow any signs or traffic management that is in place for their safety at all times.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible, and we advise motorists to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date journey information.”

Real-time journey planning information can be obtained by visiting www.trafficscotland.org or twitter @trafficscotland.

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
