CROSSGATES Gala Day was blessed with a fine day which saw the village community turn out in superb numbers.

Saturday saw the sun shine for long spells but the very wet weather of Thursday had seen the gala committee change their plans and move the entertainment activities from Humbug Park to the green area behind the village school.

The parade left the Mines Rescue Station at around noon and headed down Main Street, before turning into Dunfermline Road and go towards the school field.

Music was provided by the Beats of Brazil Samba Band and Kelty and Blairadam Pipe Band.

At the park there was a host of activities including displays by the Crossgates Majorettes, Alhambra Stage School and the Torryburn and Crossgates Karate Club.

The assault course was also a big feature and the inflatables were busy all afternoon.

Gala Committee chairman, Barry Tillier said: "It really was an excellent day and it was brilliant to see a busy parade with the pavements packed by villagers.

"The weather of Thursday did pose us a few problems and we took the park activities away from Humbug as the Primrose have done a lot of work to the pitch and we did not want to cause any damage.

"But the field at the school is a big one and it provided an ideal alternative."
