EMOTIONAL tributes have been paid to a Crossgates Primrose football player who tragically lost his life last weekend.

Liam McOmish, who lived in Dunfermline, is believed to have passed away suddenly on Sunday.

Close friends flooded social media with loving messages for the popular 21-year-old, and wrote words of adoration on three balloons which were then released.

Liam joined the junior football club at the age of 17, and they lead the tributes.

Kevan McArthur, club secretary, who had known Liam since he joined Primrose, said: “He was with us for almost five seasons and he was such a lovely guy that will truly be missed by everyone at the club.

“He signed for us from Hillfield Swifts when he was 17, and everyone is truly devastated as a lot of his team-mates were very close with him. He was at our dance last week and we were all having a laugh.

“Nobody can get their heads around what has happened.

“He really was such a great young man. He was all set to sign a contract next season with us as well.

“We’re all absolutely devastated.”

The club also posted pictures of Liam, and a quote stating: “Goodbyes are not forever. Goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean I’ll miss you, until we meet again.”

His team-mates at Primrose left heartfelt messages on Twitter for the former Dunfermline High School pupil.

Liam Forbes posted a series of photos with Liam alongside him and said: “Life’s too short. Wishing it was all a dream. Rest in peace, Liam. You were a friend, a team-mate and the best half of two Liams. Sleep tight wee guy.”

Damon Kenny commented: “Rest in peace, Liam mate. Took me right under your wing at the start of the season. Sleep tight.”

He was described by one pal as his “best friend”, as more tributes were left online.

Corey McArthur said: “My best friend, my brother, love you forever and always. Shine bright wee man.”

Andrew Paterson also said: “Thanks for the memories Liam, love you wee man.”
