A CROSSGATES couple have been playing their part in making great things grow from small beginnings in Bosnia.

Acorn Aid (Scotland) is a local registered charity who's aim is to help those in need both in the local community and abroad and part of it is June and Brian Miller.

The promotional slogan used by the charity is "From the tiniest acorn grows the mighty oak".

The trustees are a small group of six who reside in Dunfermline, Crossgates, Cowdenbeath and Lumphinnans, and the charity relies on fundraising events and donations to make a difference to those in need.

Said the Crossgates couple: "In November a young volunteer firefighter, Kenan Mulalic, from Bosanska Krupa came over to the UK to undertake Water and Rope Rescue training, sponsored by Global Fire & Rescue Partnerships.

"He also completed First Aid training delivered by Crossgates company ,Thistle Medical Training and Services Ltd.

"We travelled back with Kenan to Bosanska Krupa in North West Bosnia."

They delivered items that had been donated to them to the ADA Centre for children with additional needs, the hospital, and the Social Services department.

During their stay in Krupa, First Aid mannikins were donated and Brian, assisted by Kenan, delivered a First Aid training event in the local Volunteer Firefighters Headquarters, for local and surrounding townspeople. At the end of the First Aid training Kenan presented Brian and June with certificates of appreciation.
