103 years young, is Cowdenbeath woman Josephine Sheddon.

She has lived in the town all her days and now stays in Southfield with daughter Dorothy and son-in-law James.

Josephine this week recalled how John, her husband Alex’s dad, had been the first man on the scene at the Donibristle Pit Disaster in 1901.

She also told how she was assistant manageress at the Cowdenbeath Co-op footwear store in the town and that elder brother, James Johnston, was Provost of Cowdenbeath.

In her earlier years Josephine was a keen painter on china and a number of her creations adorn shelves in Southfield. Josephine was also a needleworker and made a lot of lovely items and continued to keep her own garden up to scratch until she was 93.

Dorothy and James have a son, daughter and adopted son who she loves seeing and she is planning to make her 104th birthday.

“I will take each day at a time and I hope to make my 104th,” said Josephine.
