JUNE was a busy month for Cowdenbeath Enviromental Group as the growing season moved into full swing and the enthusiasts got down to preparing for the visit of the Beautiful Fife judges.

The enthusiastic Cowden environmentalists were out getting additional tubs planted out on High Street, organising hanging baskets the length and breadth of the town’s main shopping thoroughfare, aided by Fife Council putting the barrier baskets up, adding a huge array of colour to the streets in time for Cowdenbeath Gala Parade. Working behind the scenes the group also look after the Millennium Garden, in Perth Road, and the Cowdenbeath Community Woodland on the Crossgates road to the west of the town. Said a spokesperson for the Group, “More bird boxes were installed at the woodland as well as painting out the benches and signs. “The Millennium Garden also had bird boxes added to the site and the usual make-over undertaken.

“The Community Woodland is also getting a make-over in the shape of some fencing and gates. “The community have also helped out as can be seen in the pictures. Without their help, and indeed the Community Services department of Fife Council, our local community police offices, and the Parks and Green Spaces department of the local authority, the group would be struggling.” The spokesperson added, “We are really lucky to have all these green spaces in the town and even more so a community woodland on our door step.

“This facility is available to all and and is worth a visit, but remember to follow the country code and enjoy, don’t destroy. “Please don’t drop litter in the woodland bearing in mind the council don’t litter pick in this area, this is done by our volunteers”. The Group is gearing up for the Beautiful Fife judging day on Thursday 16th July so help the Group out, and drop your litter in the nearest bin or take it home. “This would be much appreciated by all concerned”, added the member. Cowdenbeath Enviro Group are going for gold this year, and the cleaner Cowdenbeath is in the week July 13th to July 16th would really help the chances of getting a top prize.
