OUR picture shows how the knitting skills of people in Cowdenbeath proved to be of big benefit for children in Malawi.

Cowdenbeath Horticultural Society held their cardigan appeal in conjunction with their 2014 show and they were overwhelmed with contributions from people who had knitted all sorts of cardigans and other garments. Without doubt it proved to be a huge success and well over 100 garments headed to Africa. Volunteer Betty Young, who helped out with the venture, said that the children of Malawi certainly were very grateful for the efforts of the knitters in Cowdenbeath. She said, “Last year people from the Cowdenbeath area, under the auspices of the Horticultural Society, organised a knit a cardigan for needy children in Malawi, appeal.

“The reaction from the public was excellent and I think the pictures say it all.” Horticultural Society chairman, Colin Bird, praised the efforts of those who had knitted so many cardigans and warmly thanked them for their efforts.
