A GROUP of Cowdenbeath children are the proud owners of an acre of Rainforest.

P6 and P7 children at St Bride’s Primary School have been learning about the Rainforest and were lucky enough to have a visit from David High, from the Rainforest Concern organisation.

David introduced the children to some plants and animals that live in the rainforest.

When the P6 and P7 youngsters heard about how the animals survive in the forest they were keen to do something to help protect the Rainforest so decided to buy an acre of rainforest land.

P6 pupil Inga Kurpik said, “I am happy that we are taking care of the rainforest and saving an acre.” This means that the plants and animals that live in the acre will be protected and the children of St Bride’s can proudly say they own an acre of land.

David High explained that Rainforest Concern is a registered UK charity that was established to protect the natural habitats and biodiversity that the forests contain together with the indigenous people who still rely on them for survival.

He said, “The world’s tropical rainforests are the richest and most diverse habitats on earth and they represent a vast reservoir of knowledge and contain a wide range of ecosystems and wildlife, with many species still undiscovered..

“It is really excellent that the children are so interested to hear about the rainforests and I am sure they will enjoy their involvement.”
