THE much maligned roadworks on Cowdenbeath High Street have revealed a piece of the town’s history.

Alex Dow, from Johnston Park, came across, a short section of tram rail revealed by the present roadworks on the street.

Said Alex, “That very short section was probably laid in late 1909 to early 1910, and would be in use until the Dunfermline District Tramways closed in 1937.

“It would be probably covered over shortly afterwards, only to be revealed and removed in 2015.” He added, “I originally spotted it on the High Street east-side footpath opposite the Foulford Street junction; and last Tuesday morning it had been moved to beside the pedestrian crossing by the Town House”.
