COWDENBEATH High Street’s carriageway resurfacing and drainage repairs started this week.

The project will see resurfacing south of the Fountain roundabout to the Perth Road roundabout with the works starting on Monday and programmed to be completed by 17th April.

The Transportation Department’s Ian Jones, Lead Professional Network Management (South), said this week, “In order to minimise disruption the works will be undertaken in phases and to ensure we comply with H&S Legislation the majority of the works will be carried out under a series of Temporary Road Closures.

“The works will be undertaken by JH Civil Engineering Ltd and will form four phases.” Phase 1 will run from Monday to 15th March, from the Library to Stenhouse Street. A temporary traffic diversion will be in operation and traffic will be diverted via Foulford Road, Old Perth Road and Stenhouse Street. Buses will be diverted via Foulford Road, Hill Street and Stenhouse Street. A Temporary Parking Restriction Traffic Order will be in operation for the duration of the bus diversion. This will affect on street parking on Hill Street. During this phase the resurfacing of Stenhouse Street junction will be undertaken over two Sundays – 8th and 15th March.

Phase 2 will be from Stenhouse Street to the Central Park access road and this will run from 16th to 29th March.

A Temporary Traffic Diversion will be in operation and traffic will be diverted via Stenhouse Street, Old Perth Road and Broad Street. Buses will be diverted via Hall Street & Stenhouse Street. A Temporary Parking Restriction Traffic Order will be in operation for the duration of the bus diversion. During this phase Station Road and Pit Road junctions will be resurfaced on Sunday 22nd March. The Central Park Access junction will be resurfaced on Sunday 29th March.

Phase 3 will be from Central Park the to the Fountain Roundabout and will go from 30th March to 5th April A temporary traffic diversion will be in operation and traffic will be diverted via Stenhouse Street, Old Perth Road and Broad Street. Buses will be diverted via Stenhouse Street.

The final part of the project, Phase 4, will involve High Street/Broad Street (Fountain Roundabout) from 6th to 17th April. The resurfacing of the roundabout will be undertaken utilising temporary traffic lights. Access for the emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Added Mr Jones, “Any inconvenience and delay caused by these essential works is regretted, however, as far as possible this will be kept to a minimum. The patience and co-operation of the public during this time is greatly appreciated”.
