CENTRAl Fife Community Safety Panel is planning to run a safer driving event in Cowdenbeath this summer.

While it will not be as big as the Safety Days held in the 1990s the plan is to use the event to offer advice on safe driving and also the new lower alcohol limit.

At Thursday’s panel meeting, panel member Colin Bird said that there were a number of important safety messages that could be got over about safe driving.

“Clearly we could not have anything like the size of the safety days of the past but safe driving is an important issue for people of all ages and we should be able to mount an event which can offer help folk,” he said.

The fire and police services are to be contacted to see what sort of input they might want to give and it was thought that a Sunday afternoon in mid summer with Central Park being a possible venue.

Mr Bird agreed to make enquiries with the two emergency services on what their input could be and he also undertook to check the availability of Central Park.

Meanwhile the panel is still on the look-out for new members. Said chairman Lenny Linton, “We have a busy year ahead and while we have a good membership we could always do with more enthusiastic people who are interested in community safety or crime prevention, getting involved.

“If anyone would like to find out what we are about they could contact Cowdenbeath Police Station.”
