LITTLE Cowdenbeath girl Skye Moyes is a real miracle baby to her parents.

Skye weighed only 2lbs five ounces when she was born after only 29 weeks and mum Amanda and dad Michael spent seven anxious weeks visiting her at the baby special care unit at Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital.

Having lost six other babies through a variety of reasons, Amanda and Michael wondered if they would ever get their dream child, but Skye responded brilliantly to the care of the special baby unit staff and was soon putting on some weight and after seven weeks of intensive care she got home to Dalbeath Crescent.

So pleased were mum and dad they entered Skye in the Times Bonnie Baby competition and were shocked, but rightly delighted, when she won the £300 first prize.

But no sooner had the couple received their prize they donated it in full to the baby special care unit at the Vic.

Amanda said, “Without the care and tremendous work of the staff of the unit Skye would not be here so we wanted to do something to show our appreciation.

“After the disappointments we had experienced, when Skye arrived after only 29 weeks we were worried that she might not survive because she was so small, but she is a real little fighter and with the help of the care unit staff she is now coming on brilliantly.” Amanda had nothing but admiration for the unit team, “The hours they work is incredible and they are so re-assuring and kind, they deserve the utmost praise for the work they do.” Skye’s dad, Michael, is in Bahrain at the moment working in the oil industry, but he was at the Victoria Hospital every step of the way as Skye came into the world.

Said Amanda, “Michael is a keen amateur photographer and he has been recording Skye’s progress in a series of images and he thought that we should enter her in the Times Bonnie Baby competition.

“We did not think she would win but the support we received from family and friends was brilliant.” Amanda added that it was backing that continued from the minute Skye was born, “Our parents were very supportive and the rest of the family have been equally as good and we are very grateful to them.

“Skye is now over 10lbs in weight and is doing really well and at her last check-up the doctor said that you would not know she was so premature.”
