THE food banks of the West-Central Fife area have benefited from the work of Beath High School pupils.

And Dunfermline Food Bank representatives visited the school to express their thanks to the youngsters for the food contributions and a very generous cash donation. The Food Bank, which co-ordinates several outlets including the CrosshillC entre facility, is now in its third year of operation, and DFB vice-president, Janet Gibson, said they continue to be amazed by the generosity of both the public and businesses throughout the West and Central Fife district.

The Beath High venture realised 1500 food items and over £500 for the food banks. Said Janet, “In the last year we have helped to feed over 6000 individuals and provided food packs equivalent to 54,000 meals. In this same time frame we have received 72,600 kg of food to distribute to those in need within our community.

“Our Central Distribution Warehouse receives contributions, and arranges stock in chronologic order, then distributes it to the foodbanks in Benarty, Dunfermline, Inverkeithing and Rosyth. We are currently negotiating to add another venue in Cowdenbeath to serve the public within this area”. She added, “Food vouchers are available from a wealth of front line referral partners, approximately 85 in number.

“We are assisted by a group of volunteers, 180 plus, who freely give of their time to show how much they care and want to support others within their local communities.

“We feel very privileged to service clients who find themselves in food poverty and are grateful that we have achieved so much in such a short space of time. We acknowledge that this has only been possible with the overwhelming support from all within our communities”.
