A DRIVER who clocked speeds of up to 115mph and overtook a police car on the A92 has been slapped with a £500 fine.

Andrew Ross McWilliams (20) admitted driving dangerously on 16th August on the A92 between Cowdenbeath and Lochgelly – breaking the speed limit of 70mph.

Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday that McWilliams, of Central Road, Crombie, was speeding at around 8.55pm and road conditions were damp, with gusting winds.

Fiscal depute Kyrsten Buist narrated, “Officers were in an unmarked police car at that time and became aware of a vehicle approaching at speed from behind.

“They were travelling at 70mph and the vehicle overtook well in excess of that.” Officers then followed McWilliams’ car for one-and-a-half miles to the Lochgelly offslip and tracked it going at speeds of 110-115mph.

Ms Buist said officers remarked that McWilliams displayed “signs of remorse” and said he was “extremely disappointed with himself”.

She added that McWilliams, who was unrepresented, travelled between Fife and Aberdeen, where he works offshore, and that his driving licence was “extremely important” to him.

Sheriff Craig McSherry told McWilliams, “If your driving licence is extremely important to you, I have no alternative here but to impose 12 months’ disqualification.” McWilliams was disqualified for a year, fined £500 and ordered to resit his driving test.
