COWDENBEATH Football Club’s 2014 dinner could not have come at a better time for the Blue Brazil.

Without a home game for several weeks, finances have been tight at Central Park so the annual dinner, held at Lochgelly Town Hall, raised several thousand pounds for the club.

Around 140 people turned out including former players such as Dick Baillie, were there, and other guests included former Cowden and Dunfermline manager Bert Paton, and another past Pars boss Jimmy Calderwood.

Cowdenbeath chairman, Donald Findlay, introduced speakers, former Scotland and Rangers winger Willie Henderson and Bill Copland, who had the company in stitches laughing at some of their tales.

Cowden were grateful to a number of clubs and organisations who donated prizes for the auction which raised well over £2000.

These included signed Scotland, Rangers, Hearts and Manchester City shirts plus prizes of being guests of Cowden directors at away games at Hibs, Rangers and Hearts.

There were also souvenir bottles of whisky signed by Cowdenbeath manager Jimmy Nicholl and Rangers manager Ally McCoist.

Cowden commercial director, Malcolm Slora said, “It was a really good night and it could not have come at a better time for us.

“The way the fixtures have turned out, with the Rangers game being postponed, has put a heavy strain on the finances and to see the funds being realised by the dinner was a big help.” Our pictures show Mr Findlay with the speakers and some of the guests including Jimmy Calderwood.
