A WEEKEND of celebrations marked a hundred years of the building of Beath and Cowdenbeath North Church, with members, ministers and families turning up for the events.

The building was dedicated on 30th September 1914 and to celebrate the centenary year, the church held a weekend of events from 10th-12th October so that the community could share in the impressive milestone. Friday night saw the Centenary Celebration Praise which was attended by over 90 people, including current and former ministers.

Children from the Sunday School were among the singers, while poems were also read out, including one from Kerry Black. The audience was also told the story of the church and the history and happenings over the last 100 years.

On Saturday there was lots of excitement for the youngsters at the children’s fun day and centenary exhibition (see picture). Gabby the clown and balloon artist made some incredible balloons for the kids, as well as 100 for the church.

The weekend was rounded off with the centenary celebration service which was attended by over 100 people, complete with bible readings, long service certificates and a special centenary cake.

Church member, Amelia Howie, thought that the whole weekend was a great success. “It was a really good weekend and we’re quite pleased with the attendance,” she said.

“Around 400 people came over the weekend. The kids loved the day on Saturday and some of the balloons that were made were out of this world, from an octopus to bows and arrows!

“It was a nice service on Sunday and a really good weekend.”
