TO comemmorate the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War special Remembrance Day services are to be held at the Trinity Churches in Cowdenbeath and Crossgates on 9th November.

Trinity minister, Rev Gavin Boswell, is asking church members and members of the public wishing to take part, to take along pictures of family members who were involved in either the First or Second World War, to be put on display in the churches.

He told the Times, “I would like to invite people personally to help make the service of remembrance this year really meaningful and special as we commemorate the 100th anniversary since the 1st World War began in 1914.

“To do this, I am asking people if possible, to take along framed photographs of family or close relatives who served or died in the two Great Wars, and also those who came home and lived with their memories and some their injuries, who have now passed away.

“It is my intention to have two tables on either side of the chancel to place these photos on, each table representing one of the Great Wars.

“I am looking for anyone in a person’s family who was in the Armed Forces or Home Guard, and also those who were engaged to support the Nation, in the Women Auxiliary, Land Army, Timber Jill’s, Bevan Boys, Air Raid Wardens, indeed, anyone who played a part.” He added, “I am not just looking at the two world wars, but also photos of people who served in any of the subsequent conflicts, ie, Suez, Vietnam, the Gulf, Iraq or Afghanistan, etc. – those who have died or now passed away. A table will be dedicated in front of the main communion table for these photos”.

If people are able and willing to take along photos, he is asking them to put the name of the loved one at the foot of the frame, and on the back of the photo frame their own name and contact telephone number, so that all photos can be returned after the service. If you wish to tack to the photo a Scotland Poppy appeal “poppy” this would also be acceptable.

Rev Boswell concluded, “I also hope that for those who have served in conflicts or the Armed Forces, would consider coming to the services on Sunday 9th November, and if you wish to wear medals or insignia, would you please do so, so that you too can be recognised”.

The aim is to have both church buildings open on Saturday 8th November between 2pm and 4pm so that people can take their photos along.

If this is inconvenient then people should let Rev Boswell know so they could deliver photos during the week before the services. Any queries can be addressed to the Minister, Rev Gavin Boswell on 512079 (office).
