THE 2014 Cowdenbeath Flower Show was a tremendous tribute to the late chairman of the Horticultural Society, George Bird, who died shortly after last year’s show.

Colin Bird, chairman of Cowdenbeath Horticultural Society, told our reporter how the many varied exhibitition classes, which were spread through all areas of the Trinity Church building, depended on and are readily given the support by the congregation and officers of the Trinity Church.

He thanked all from the Trinity Church for their continuing support and all the sponsors for their backing and all the non committee members who went along to help.

Mr Bird went on to say that the Saturday was very busy and unusually a Sunday was equally as busy and had attracted visitors from a very wide area who said that they intended to return next year because the were so impressed with all the sections. The visitors and judges spoke about the well prepared Primary School collages on ‘The show Must Go On’ theme.

Rev Gavin Boswell, who opened the show and his wife Caroline, were very impressed with the Show Must Go on centrepiece and floral decorations.

The show secretary, Mrs Sheena Bell, said that the centrepiece depicting all the previous show themes from 2007, had attracted many questions, especially from the younger people. Mrs Bell went on to say that next year’s theme will be about theDiamond Jubilee, as the Society celebrates its 60th birhtday.

The Charity Knit continued to be a huge success with over 220 jerseys getting sent out to Zambia and Kirkcaldy`s Victoria Hospital premature baby unit. Charity knit organiser Betty Young thanked all knitters for their continuing support.
