GENEROUS pupils at Hill of Beath primary school have raised £500 for a charity which helps children with cancer and leukaemia, inspired by the work of CCLASP in supporting one of their colleagues.

Children with Cancer and Leukaemia, Advice and Support for Parents (CCLASP) helps children and families cope with the struggles of dealing with a life-threatening illness, and Hill of Beath pupil Euan Burns (9), has benefited from their support.

Euan, who has leukaemia, led his classmates in fundraising ventures including bag-packing at Asda and a coffee morning, organised by his P5/6 class. The parent council lent a helping hand with a race night at the Silver Birch, and in the end a total of £500 was raised.

Euan decided that his chosen charity would be CCLASP, and on Friday morning a cheque was presented at the primary school. Unfortunately, Euan was back in hospital and couldn’t attend the presentation, but Wendy Brown, chair of the parent council, said that he was pleased at the amount of money they raised. “Euan and his mum and dad are delighted,” she said. “CCLASP really helps children - they organise holidays and transport and the family is really appreciative.

“All the students were really helpful, it was amazing. We’re extremely proud of everyone’s efforts.” Valerie Simpson, managing director of CCLASP, went to the school to receive the cheque on behalf of the charity. “It’s always more special when it’s children that have done the fundraising,” she said. “Especially considering one of them is in hospital. We’re really chuffed to accept the cheque and hear about how the children had raised the money. It was really nice.”
