PEOPLE only have until next Tuesday (2nd September) to make sure they’re registered to vote so that they can have their say in the Scottish Independence Referendum.

Depute Electoral Registration Officer, Lawrence Cooper, is encouraging people to make sure they are registered to vote in time for the Referendum, “To make sure you can have your say you must be on the electoral register. And don’t forget that if you’re 16 or 17 on 18th September you’ll also be able to register to vote too.

"If you’re already on the electoral register then you won’t have to register again. However, it's important to double check.

"Many people think they're automatically registered because they pay council tax, but this isn't true. If your circumstances have recently changed, for example if you’ve just moved house, then you will need to re-register. To make sure you're registered get in touch with the electoral registration team.

“Registering is quick and simple. It only takes a few minutes to complete a registration form or to choose to vote by post or proxy, where someone you trust votes on your behalf, if you’re registered.

“Whatever way you choose to vote, we must receive your application for registration by 5 pm Tuesday 2nd September. If you wish to vote by post or proxy you must apply by 5 pm Wednesday 3rd September; however you must be registered to vote first".

Registration forms are available by calling 03451 55 55 11, emailing voters.roll@fife.gov.uk or by printing off a form from www.fifedirect.org.uk/referendum which you should fill in, sign and send back.
