HOLIDAY plans were the icing on the cake for a 60 year celebration of marriage for a local couple.

William McFadyen (84), and his wife Margaret (81), of Anderson Drive, Cowdenbeath, swapped Fife for Wales as part of their celebrations for their diamond wedding anniversary, which was on Thursday. The holiday, to Welsh seaside resort Llandudno, was an anniversary present from the family. “We had been really looking forward to it,” said William, “We went there last year too so it was nice to go back.” The couple first met in 1950 and it was only a few short years later that they were married. Over 100 guests attended the ceremony at Cairns Church, before the happy couple headed to the Institute in Cowdenbeath for the reception.

But there is no great secret to success for a long and happy marriage, according to Margaret. “It’s just a bit of give and take when you’ve been married all this time,” she said.

With a diamond wedding anniversary and 60 years of marriage behind her, she may just be right.
