PEOPLE are being urged to back a plan to open a food bank in Cowdenbeath.

A public meeting is being held next Tuesday night to discuss how the facility could set-up, following the successful opening of the Benarty food bank in May. Cowdenbeath Baptist Church Minister, Graham Kinloch, is one of the people behind the move, and he said, “The churches in the town, in conjunction with the council, are organising a meeting on the 26th of this month, at 7.30pm at the Baptist Church, in Chapel Street, to plan a food bank for Cowdenbeath. We hope that people interested in the idea will come along and help get the idea off the ground.” John Drylie, the man who spearheaded the Dunfermline Food Bank, and who and who played a large role in the establishment of the Benarty facility at the Crosshill Centre, explained that the Elgin Street bank in West Fife had had some 300 visits from people in the Cowdenbeath area.

He said, “That fact alone shows that there is a need for food bank in Cowdenbeath and I hope that people come along on Tuesday and get involved.”
