FORMER Cowden boss Danny Lennon says he is looking forward to watching his old club tackle the cream of the Championship this season.

Lennon memorably led the Blue Brazil to the First Division after defeating Brechin City in the 2010 play-off final in their second successive promotion before leaving Central Park to take over at St Mirren. He was back in Fife on Sunday to take part in a charity fund-raising match at Rosyth organised by Scott McCrindle, who was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 18 while a youth player at Cowdenbeath.

Lennon’s managerial career so far may be best remembered for his League Cup triumph with the Paisley side but he told the Times, “I always like to see the clubs who were good to me do well and I had a great grounding with Cowdenbeath. All credit to Jimmy (Nicholl) who took it to the last day of the season before they got over the final hurdle against Dunfermline, their big rivals. When I look back, they’d had the odd promotion and flirted between the Second and Third Divisions but in the last four years that’s changed. They went down but Colin (Cameron) took them straight back up and it’s great to see two part-time teams in Cowdenbeath and Dumbarton, competing with the full-time teams.

“It’s going to be a very exciting season and financially it’s great for the club. Cowdenbeath have a number of young players coming through and, while I’m out of the game, this is one league where early on I will visit frequently.” He continued, “I thoroughly enjoyed playing on Sunday and it was terrific to see Scott looking so healthy and back playing the game he loves while putting a bit back in for a great cause. I’ve had some quality time with the family but I’m itching to get back into the game.”
