Society chairman, Colin Bird told our reporter that following on from the very successful charity knit held in 2013, which saw 185 baby caridgans sent to the Greenfields Africa charity the late president requested that the charity donation should continue and cardigan, jumpers etc, celebrating a baby’s first birthday be invited.

Said Colin, “This request was put out to church groups, WRI groups and various churches, and anyone wishing to help should contact Betty Young or any member of the committee.” Betty added that all cardigans would go to the charity ‘Mombilima Mission’ in Zambia and they should be suitable for a one year-old.

Cardigans can be handed in at any time up to the show in September.

Added Betty, “So far we have reached 50 cardigans and signs are that last year’s total will be exceeded.” The committee also reported that tickets (costing £2) for the forthcoming floral desmonstration by with Chelsea Flower Show gold medal winning floral artist Linda Soutar on Thursday 24th at 7pm were going well. Colin also stated that anyone wishing to attend can also pay at the door and and the tickets include tea and coffee and the tickets go into a draw for one of the displays being made on the night.

He also said that Tom Courts senior, the well known Cowdenbeath businessman, would be the guest speaker at the May meeting on Wednesday 7th talking on growing vegetables.
