COWDENBEATH man Dennis Watson has been honoured by Kirkcaldy and Central District Sports Council for his special achievement in the field of archery.

Dennis, from Leuchatsbeath Drive, has not only been a highly successful archer himself but is also someone who has been giving a lot guidance and encouragement to other people to get involved in the sport through his coaching sessions at the Cluny Clays Centre, near Cardenden.

He received the Sports Council’s Honorary President’s Special Award for his special achievement within his chosen sport and for the remarkable performances achieved by his students.

Dennis has been coach of the Forest Spirit Archers for several years, run at Cluny Clays, and has seen many of the group collect important titles.

Many, if not all the successful competitors, have been set on their way by the initial beginners’ courses and subsequent coaching sessions by Dennis.

Every club night Dennis is involved in either running a beginners’ class or introducing people to the sport or watching less experienced members and offering them advice and reassurance.

On the competitive front Dennis has a glittering list of awards. This includes the VMFU World Indoor title in 2007 and silver and bronze medals in the European Outdoor championships.

In addition he has won two UK titles, is present VMFU (UK) record holder for Field and Hunter (England); and eight Scottish indoor and outdoor titles since 2003.
