Cowdenbeath can boast a big winner at this year's World Scotch Pie Championships.

Jim Paterson, who runs Kassy's Kitchen, walked off with the top prize in the 'Hot Savouries' category for the second year in a row.

His Roast Lamb and Mint Sauce Pie impressed judges who gave it the '2010 Diamond Award'.

"I was over the moon to get it again because they changed the categories this year so I wasn't very optimistic," he admitted, "but we'll have the trophy on display in Kassy's Kitchen for another year."

Jim's Trawlerman's Pie was also recognised, winning a Silver Award in the 'Fish Pie' category.

He added, "It's great for a wee place like ours to go up against the big boys win something."

Another Cowdenbeath butcher came a close second in the 'Scotch Pie' section.

Tom Courts' effort was awarded '1st Runner-Up Gold' status. He also secured a silver award for his sausage roll.

He said, "One away from world champion is a great achievement for us. We've had a great run in competitions and this tops the lot. I'm delighted."

Tom offered also offered his congratulations to Jim Paterson. "It's great that Jim has retained his trophy in the savoury category. To win that section two years on the trot is no mean feat. Jim's good at what he does and he's a great guy too - he was first up to congratulate me when the results were announced."

Jim added, "To have two Cowdenbeath businesses doing so well is great for the town."
