Scottish Water has received the Final Determination from the Water Industry Commission for 2010-2015 which proposes that customer charges will be frozen for at least one year and decrease in real terms over the next five years while customer service improves further.

Richard Ackroyd, Chief Executive of Scottish Water, said, "Keeping customer charges below inflation supports Scottish Water's aim of becoming Scotland's most trusted and valued business. We are determined that our customers will not pay more than is absolutely necessary during these challenging economic times. We are committed to providing better value for money while delivering the investment and improvements to the environment that Scotland needs."

"We are pleased to see that many of the points we raised in our response to the draft determination have been taken on board in the final determination. However, we recognise that it will be a major challenge to meet the tough efficiency targets.

"We will study this in detail before making the decision in the New Year whether to accept the final determination. We need to ensure that we can deliver all the service improvements required within the price guidelines set by the final determination. We must ensure we have enough but no more than is necessary to allow us to finance and deliver the challenges of the next five years."

Ronnie Mercer, Chair of Scottish Water said, "We need to ensure that this determination, which once agreed, not only provides us with adequate finance over the next five years, but also provides the opportunity for us to demonstrate improving customer service and performance on our journey to becoming one of Britain's leading water companies and one of Scotland's most valued and trusted companies, one we can all be proud of."
