COWDENBEATH Civic Week comes to a magnificent climax on Saturday with the grand gala parade.

But before that there is plenty for the people of the town to enjoy though, with something for adults, children and even the family pet!

Today (Wednesday) a bowls competition is being held at Cowdenbeath Bowling Club on Bowling Green Street - with local rinks taking part.

This competition is always fiercely fought out, in the best sporting manner, but the contestants always put it, 'we are here to win.'

Also today sees the Pet Show, which will run from 6 to 8pm, in the Maxwell Centre, on Stenhouse Street. There is FREE ENTRY.

Introduce your pampered pet to Lou, one of the local vets at the Inglis Surgery off High Street, who always has a caring eye on them.

Dogs, hamsters, rabbits, cats, indeed all pets and their humans, are welcome to go along and take part!

There are always some surprise winners and the pets love the event as much as their owners!

On Friday it is time for the Gala team to get floats ready for the local groups to decorate in readiness for the parade!

This year's 40th anniversary parade is certain to be a special event and the judges from Scottish Water are going to find it difficult to pick the best as a lot of graft goes into the preparation work.

The Civic week Committee expect this to be a record long parade which will leave Woodend at around noon and head along Broad Street, then High Street and Foulford Road, on the way to the park.

There, there will be a host of activities for people of all ages to enjoy and for Blue Brazil fans the club's strip for the new season will be revealed.

It will be a special and historic day for the town and its people.

And for Sunday it's not quite over for the gala team as the bunting is taken back down and kit is moved back in to storage until next year!
