AS part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of Cowdenbeath Civic Week a special event is being held next weekend.

In the 1960s and before the Palais De Danse was the most favoured nitespot in the district.

Many a romance started at the Palais and ended with wedding bells so the Cowdenbeath Civic Week Committee decided to have a special event as part of their 40th anniversary celebrations.

Cowdenbeath entertainer, Horace Demarco, was a regular at the Palais with his band and did a lot to enhance its reputation.

The venue is Beath High School, Foulford Road, from 2pm – 4pm on Saturday, June 9.

Enjoy afternoon tea, music from across the decades, a dance (optional of course!) and a sing-a-long with the Cowdenbeath Community Choir during the afternoon. Tickets are £2.

Tea Dance tickets are available at Precious Events, Barnardos and Kassy’s kitchen

Said the Civic Week Committee's Alex Haddow: "In addition, we are delighted to be hosting an information event that runs alongside the tea dance for our more mature members of our community and those that support them

"The information event is free and attendees include an exhibition of Cowdenbeath Past and Present photos.

"There will be information stalls from, Fife Council Housing and Tenant Participation – answering questions about your housing and involvement in your community

"Cowdenbeath Community Police – giving safety tips to stay ahead of the scammers".

Also there will be the Cowdenbeath Safety Partnership,

Alzheimer Scotland and Elder Abuse Scotland – raising awareness and offering volunteering opportunities. Fife Computer Classes - it's never too late to learn or increase your knowledge of IT in these special classes for senior citizens. DEARS Pharmacy and Therapy Ponies Scotland – meet the Shetland Ponies that help to take the stress away.

Added Alex: "There will be free tea/coffee and the opportunity to meet, chat and find out more about what help and support is available out there for people.

"Access to the information event is free but tickets are required for the tea dance should you wish to attend".
