MSP for Cowdenbeath Annabelle Ewing is urging her constituents to get into their garden and enjoy the benefits, both physical and mental, of tending to the lawn and

Ms Ewing visited Growforth, a wholesale nursery and garden centre in her constituency and was pleased to learn that no matter what the physical challenges people may have they can enjoy gardening.

Speaking after the visit to Growforth, in Hillend, Ms Ewing said: “I was delighted to be able to visit Growforth as part of the “Health through Horticulture Day” which they held in conjunction with Trellis Scotland to explain the health benefits of gardening - both physical and mental - and how gardening can be made more accessible for those with physical challenges.

“Trellis Scotland are a registered charity involved in the promotion of therapeutic gardening, the art of using gardening to help people take care of their physical, emotional and social wellbeing".

Trellis support a network of over 400 therapeutic gardening projects in Scotland, helping them share skills, good practice and get connected.

Added Annabelle Ewing: “Whilst surrounded by all these green-fingered folk, I also took the opportunity to discuss with a range of interested parties, the recently launched Scottish Horticultural Action Plan which puts forward a range of proposals for ways in which Scottish horticulture can support education, health and well-being, the environment, the economy and tourism.

“And I will certainly be back to Growforth to buy some of the lovely plants that were on display!"

Jenny Simpson and Ali from Trellis were able to give the MSP an insight into what can be achieved by people and Ms Ewing is also pictured with Stan Green of Growforth, who explained the services his organisation can provide and Mr Grieve, of Kingdom Homes.
