A PUPIL guided venture turned the Spring Fayre at Cowdenbeath’s Foulford Primary School into a fantastic day.

The ‘Explosive Garage’ Spring Fayre became a mixture of creative crafts, sporting skill and music, through an idea from the Pupil Council.

Headteacher, Sharon Clark, explained: “We have worked hard to develop our pupil voice in the school and this ties in with the fact that 2018 is the Year of the Young Person.

“As a school our pupils recognised that to improve the lunchtime experiences for our children we had to develop the opportunities on offer to them. We have since raised money to purchase and install a trim trail, invested in loose parts material and purchase play equipment.

“The children then decided to organise a concert and one child in P3, Rory Page, created a business plan to hold one in school. The children have ran with this idea and organised a local band called Sid’s Garage to play for an hour at our Spring Fayre”.

The children designed t-shirts and these were printed and were ready for the big day.

There were all the activities that could be expected at a Spring Fayre including ‘Beat the Goalie’ but there was no doubt that the performance from Sid’s Garage caught the imagination of everyone. The queues leading to the school proved that and it was a great day for the hundreds of people who took part.

Ms Clark added: “The children have been able to gain so many skills for learning, work and life through this event. All classes planned and organised a stall.”

The school is indebted to Paul Barker from Northern Music, who printed the T shirts and donated them to the cause and also Steven Page, from Steve Page tours, and his son Rory who created the idea and sourced the band.
