Cowdenbeath 1, Clyde0.

Ladbrokes League 2

Attendance-406

A THOROUGHLY deserved win for Cowdenbeath which keeps their hopes of avoiding the Pyramid Play-offs alive.

In a game which raced from end to end, at Central Park on Saturday, there was plenty of action and the Blue Brazil’s work rate saw them compete with the Clyde team which has won a lot of games this season.

The defence had to work really hard throughout the 90 minutes against a side who had been scoring goals regularly but with Bryan Gilfillan and Jamie Pyper in charge and Dave McGurn in form behind them.

In midfield Kyle Miller ran the game but he had excellent support from Brad Smith and Robbie Buchanan as the Blues bossed that area for long spells.

They gave Jordyn Sheerin plenty of the ball and he caused Clyde no end of problems constantly going close himself and creating chances for team mates.

Cowden attacked in the early stages and in the second minute Sheerin’s drive from 19 yards just cleared the Clyde bar. In 13 minutes the visitors responded with a good move and David Goodwillie took a pass from Barry Cuddidy and his 10 yarder was blocked by Pyper’s tackle

Then in 19 minutes Sheerin went close again with another shap shot which roared just wide.

In 26 minutes a Goodwillie pass set up Ally Love and his shot was deflected wide by Fraser Mullen and from the corner Robbie Buchanan came to the Blues’ rescue when he cleared Dylan Cogill’s low shot off the line.

With six minutes to go to the break Ben Reilly forced a mistake from Martin McNiff and the ball looked as if it could drift into the net but Blair Currie came to the rescue with a good save.

Five minutes into the second period Cowden threatened when Reilly’s chip from a Sheerin assist beat Currie but Kieran Duffie popped up on the line to clear.

However, on the hour in a sharp Clyde attack, Goodwillie found himself with a chance from the edge of the home six yard box and his angled drive was parried by McGurn.

But in 67 minutes Cowden took the lead. Sheerin nodded the ball down to SMITH and his low left foot shot 12 yarder gave Currie no chance.

Clyde opted for route one to try to get back into the game but it should have earned them a red card in time added on. ‘Keeper Currie took a free-kick from inside his own half but it was headed clear and Buchanan got onto it rounded Currie on the halfway line and was poleaxed. It brought only yellow when red was more appropriate.
