MP Douglas Chapman week visited Hill of Beath Primary School in his constituency to read a children’s book to a primary 2/3 class for World Storytelling Day.

World Storytelling Day (WSD) is celebrated every year to encourage oral storytelling in as many countries as possible across the globe.

On the Monday morning, the Dunfermline and West Fife MP brought along ‘Peacocks in the Glen Again’, written by local author Caroline Copeland, which went down extremely well with the youngsters who by the end were full of questions about peacocks!

After reading the book, the children then listened to Mr Chapman explain what the role of an MP entails before taking questions.

He was then given the opportunity to meet and congratulate a number of pupils who, inspired by the new Queensferry Crossing, had created their own fantastic bridges during art time.

Mr Chapman said: “I really enjoyed meeting the pupils at Hill of Beath Primary School and reading to them for World Storytelling Day.

"The children really enjoyed listening to Peacocks in the Glen Again, and many said they were looking forward to one day visiting Pittencrieff Park to see the peacocks for themselves!”

He added: “It’s fantastic to have awareness days like World Storytelling Day and World Book Day to promote the benefits of reading to children.”
