A COWDENBEATH woman who assaulted a police officer who was trying to arrest her was this week ordered to be of good behaviour.

Brenda Kelly, 51, of Netherton Road, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday after admitting a charge that she assaulted a police officer in execution of his duty at her home on December 16 by repeatedly kicking him on the body.

Depute fiscal, Ron Hay, said police were in attendance at the house and had a reason to detain Mrs Kelly. When they were doing that, she kicked a police constable to the legs several times.

Solicitor, Elaine Buist, said her client had contacted the police believing she had been at the end of a domestic abuse incident.

"On their arrival, they noticed Mr Kelly had some blood on his face and he said to police officers it was caused by Mrs Kelly," she told the Court.

"The first she knew about it was when police officers took her arms to try and put cuffs on and she began to resist.

"When she continued to struggle, the police officer used a technique to put arm behind her back which caused her to fall on her face. While on the ground, she continued to struggle and accepts the police officer was struck during that.

"Whilst the incident has clearly quite a significant thing for Mrs Kelly and it really does seem to have knocked her confidence in the police."

Sheriff Moira MacKenzie deferred sentencing for six months for Kelly to be of good behaviour.

She told her: "It appears from what the Court has been told that this is an isolated incident and out of character for you. It seems to be quite an unusual background."
