Cowdenbeath 0, Clyde 3.

Ladbrokes League 2

Attendance-374.

COWDEN’S four game unbeaten run came to an end last night at the hands of the League 2 form team who grabbed their 10th win in 13 games and moved into the top four.

Cowdenbeath started the game brightly but after Clyde grabbed the lead with their first serious attack it settled the visitors but they had to survive a scare just before the break and got the benefit of a questionable decision.

Cowden manager Gary Bollan felt his side were caught out for the opener: “We were playing well and then gave away a bad goal and you cannot do that against a team like Clyde. It really gave them a lift. However, we have to be ready for Stenhousemuir this Saturday.”

Cowden have several forays into the Clyde box in the early stages and from a Fraser Mullen corner in five minutes Scott Rumsby just failed at the far post to guide the ball past Kyle Gourlay.

But with their first attack the visitors took the lead in 11 minutes. Barry Cuddihy got space in the left hand side and his cut-back was perfect for Christopher McSTAY to fire the ball past Dave McGurn from 10 yards range.

It was a stunner for the Blues who had started the game well but they started to get some good possession without really putting Gourlay under any pressure although a clever Harvey Swann pass in 26 minutes gave David Cox chance but Dylan Cogill got to it before the striker and was happy to give away a corner.

On the half hour Robbie Buchanan’s 14 yarder pulled out a good save from Gourlay and seconds later as the Bully Wee struggled to clear their lines, the ‘keeper made a brave save at the feet of Blair Malcolm after Jordyn Sheerin opened up the visiting defence.

In 43 minutes Gourlay dropped the ball into his own net with Cogill and Malcolm around him but the referee judged that Malcolm had fouled the ‘keeper, a wrong decision.

In 50 minutes Clyde threatened when Cuddihy cleverly beat Swann and his cross looked perfect for Boyle but he slipped and the ball rolled wide.

Six minutes later the home side worked a good move involving Sheerin and Cox and Miller latched onto it but his 20 yarder flew wide.

With the breeze behind them the Clyde saw a lot of the ball and in 61 minutes got number two. The home defence failed to deal with an angled long ball and David GOODWILLIE kept his cool and fired a right foot 14 yarder past McGurn.

Gourlay made a cracking finger tip save from Miller with 19 minutes left from his 25 yard volley but it was Cowden sub Ben Reilly who almost grabbed a goal with a fine cut in from the left and his shot was saved by Gourlay at the second attempt.

However, in 81 minutes Clyde got number three when McSTATY latched on to a Goodwillie flick and fired home from 10 yards out.
