A DRUNKEN man threw himself onto the bonnet of a passing taxi after an argument with his girlfriend.

Jordan Bruce’s antics ended up with him assaulting a police officer following the disturbance in Cowdenbeath in the early hours of the morning.

Bruce, 22, of Balfour Street, Kirkcaldy, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on July 16, at Broad Street, Cowdenbeath, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by jumping in front of a vehicle, throwing himself onto the bonnet, causing damage to it, shouted, swore, made threats and struggled violently with police officers.

He also admitted assaulting PC Steven Harker by repeatedly kicking him on the body.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said that at around 1.45am, Bruce was with his girlfriend outside a pub when they started arguing.

A taxi driver who was passing by at the time heard the female screaming and then Bruce jumped into the path of the taxi and onto the bonnet.

“He refused to move from the bonnet when requested to do so and the police and ambulance were contacted,” Mr Yousaf continued.

“A paramedic observed the accused lying on the bonnet of the vehicle and took the view he hadn’t been struck and didn’t need treatment.”

When police arrived, they saw Bruce lying on a footpath and he became hostile saying he was going to “kill them” and “batter them”.

He then began to struggle violently with officers.

Bruce, who was representing himself, said: “I had a bit too much to drink and stuff was getting the better of me. My head went into overdrive. I was just being stupid and drunk.”

Sheriff Alison McKay fined Bruce £600.
