Edinburgh City 1, Cowdenbeath 1

Ladbrokes League 2

Attendance-256

NOT the win Cowden were looking for but David Cox's late equaliser salvaged a point at Ainslie Park last night.

It was yet another game in which Cowdenbeath had the bulk of play and shots at goal but yet again no win.

Indeed the Fifers forced no fewer than ten corners and had twice as many shots on target than the hosts but as has happened so often this season too few goals for their efforts. And also they missed a penalty.

The result leaves Cowdenbeath 15 points behind City and Berwick Rangers with a game in hand so really the Blues have to just aim to get wins on the board.

The visitors had Bryan Gilfillan fit and back in the team at the back but there was no place for skipper Scott Rumsby who was on the bench.

Robbie Buchanan was back after his arm injury and in the opening minutes it was all Cowden with two corners forced and a shot from Jordyn Hornby going wide and then Jordyn Sheerin seeing his effort saved by Calum Antell before Gilfillan saw the 'keeper happy to grab his effort from the centre of the box.

City at last got going and Farid El Alagui got free from his marker to power a header just over.

For a spell the finishing of both sides was wild but three minutes before the break Buchanan saw his right foot shot from the edge of the box blocked.

Cowdenbeath opened the second period well and in 47 minutes Brad Smith was hauled down by Cammy Blues in the City box but Sheerin's spot-kick went wide.

He tried to make amends a few minutes later but his effort crept inches wide.

Smith saw his shot saved and then Sheerin's close in effort was blocked before City at last came back into it on the hour with a Craig Beattie header which was saved by Dave McGurn.

At the other end Buchanan saw his shot saved then in 71 minutes the moment the visiting fans dreaded would happen.

After having by far the better of things Cowden went a goal down in 71 minutes when Beattie's assist gave Graham TAYLOR the chance to shoot into the corner of the net.

Cowden went for the leveller and it came with just three minutes left. Sheerin supplied the opportunity for COX and his left foot shot made no mistake.

The Blue Brazil went for the winner but sub Cammy Muirhead's effort was blocked, so another game that should have been won but yielded just one point.
