A NEW homes development in Hill of Beath, the first of its kind in the area, has reached a new milestone after welcoming its first residents and opening a show home on site.

The Baxterfield development, built by leading homebuilder Keepmoat Homes, will bring 134 new homes to the village in a development named after a Hill of Beath legend.

The development has been named Baxterfield in honour of the legendary Scottish footballer Jim Baxter, who was born in the Hill of Beath in 1939.

A statue of Jim can be found just a short walk away from the development on Main Street, across from Jim’s childhood home and where he was likely to have kicked his first football.

Sandy McBride, Divisional Chairman for Scotland and the North West for Keepmoat Homes, said: “We wanted to make sure the development reflected the history and heritage of the area, which is why we named it after Jim Baxter, who the community is understandably very proud of.

“But whilst honouring a hero from the past Baxterfield is a new neighbourhood firmly fixed on the future. The development is helping to tackle the shortage of new homes needed for families and first-time buyers in the area and is also attracting new families to the village".

Keepmoat has been working closely with the community since work on the development began in April 2017. This has included sponsorship of the Hill of Beath Hawthorn Junior Football Club and work with the Hill of Beath Primary School.

The homebuilder has now also launched a community art project in collaboration with Fife Council, which will see art work developed by children from the primary school installed onto the playing area on the Baxterfield development.

The art work will reflect and reinforce the identity of the site and surrounding areas, which has a long history of mining and farming.

Sandy Mcbride added: “We are not just here to build homes but to develop a new neighbourhood that is in keeping with the area and where people want to live, as part of this we are investing in and supporting the local community.”
