TWO local schools will have school bus routes affected by changes today to ensure complete safety as roads get back to as near normal as possible after the thaw has removed a vast amount of the snow which fell last week.

There are 12 routes in total in Fife affected and Lochgelly High School and Crossgates Primary School arte involved.

Carrie Lindsay, Director of Education and Children's Services said: "School transport issues and the condition of some roads meant that we could not get all the children to school on Monday, particularly in our high schools.

"These have been quite exceptional circumstances and the size and variety of school catchments in Fife, taking in some very rural communities, make arrangements like these even more difficult.

"I'd like to say again that this could not have happened without thousands of people, both staff and communities, going above and beyond what could be reasonably expected of them.

"Their strength and support is one of our greatest assets and something that is frequently commented on in Fife school inspections. I know it is this strength and support which will help our schools as they return to normality in the coming days".
