SPEEDING is one of the factors identified by the public that affects the quality of life in the communities of the Cowdenbeath area.

Local Officers are looking to utilise the Community Speed Watch Initiative to help tackle the problem.

The scheme is voluntary in nature and is driven by members of the community, supported and facilitated by the Police. Volunteers are trained in the use of speed detection equipment and conflict management whereby they deploy in their communities, recording details of offending vehicles.

Said the Cowdenbeath Community Police team's Gary Chrystal: "The registered keeper of the vehicle thereafter receives a letter via the Police Service advising them of the circumstances. The deployments are supported by signage/media and are by their very nature high visibility, with a clear deterrent effect.

"Any person wishing to join the scheme will be vetted by Police Scotland."

If anyone in the Cowdenbeath Policing area is interested in joining the Community Speed Watch initiative, Cowdenbeath Community Team are inviting potential volunteers to attend Cowdenbeath Police Station, Brunton House on Saturday 10th March, 2018 between 1500hrs and 1700hrs.

Officers will be available to discuss the scheme in full and fill out appropriate paperwork. Anyone attending should bring with them photo ID and proof of address for vetting purposes.

If you are unable to attend on the specified date but are still interested please contact the team by either telephoning 101 or email CowdenbeathCPT@scotland.pnn.police.uk
