REACTING angrily to his mum telling him to get out of bed led to a court appearance for one teenager this week.

Barry Chalmers, 18, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court yesterday (Wednesday) after earlier admitting that on April 13, at a house in Oakley's Stanley Terrace, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner when he repeatedly shouted, swore and uttered abusive remarks to his mother, behaved in an aggressive manner, kicked a dolls house, punched the door of a tumble drier, brandished a knife, struck a wall with the knife, kicked a bin, threw a mop across a room, uttered abusive remarks and threatened to kill himself.

He also assaulted a 15-year-old by spitting in her face and failing to appear at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on July 6.

Depute fiscal Kyrsten Buist said Chalmers had resided at the property the previous night and went upstairs to tell him to get out of bed at around 2pm.

He refused to get up and immediately became aggressive and was shouting and swearing at his mum.

He continued with the abusive behaviour and threats of violence and, at one point, picked up a vegetable knife and brandished it, again making threats.

Defence solicitor Sarah Meehan said her client, whose address on court papers was given as Grainger Street, Lochgelly, but in court was read out as being Johnston Park, Cowdenbeath, appreciated the serious nature of the offences.

She added: "He recognises he requires to undertake work in relation to his anger management if he is to avoid appearing before the court again."

Sheriff Chris Shead said the offence was of a serious nature. He placed him on a community payback order with supervision for 18 months and ordered him to do 120 hours of unpaid work within nine months.
