TRAIN arrival times at Cowdenbeath and Cardenden stations in December and at the start of the year have been comparing favourably with the Scottish average.

The monthly ScotRail Performance Update for terminal stations in Mid-Scotland and Fife generally performed well below standard in December and January.

Trains were more likely to be late than on time at Markinch.

The revelations follow the publication of a consumer report showing that ScotRail was awarded an overall satisfaction rating of only 51%, the lowest amongst all train operators in Scotland.

The arrival figure for arriving on time at Cowdenbeath station was 79.9 per cent and for Cardenden 77.3.

Commenting Liz Smith MSP and Times columnist, said: “The overall figures are a depressing indictment of the current state of our railways.

“For far too long ScotRail’s performance has been poor and it is up to the Scottish Government to sort out problems with the franchise.

“Commuters who rely on ScotRail services are being let down and it is unacceptable that trains are more likely to arrive late than early at Markinch.

“I have been calling for a direct rail link between Edinburgh and Perth and these statistics underline why this route is needed to alleviate pressure from the Fife Circle.

“The Scottish Government must get ScotRail back on track and that means ensuring customer satisfaction is up and more trains arrive on time.”
