THE housing team covering the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area are determined to try and help families and individuals find the ideal sized home for them.

The team told Cowdenbeath Area Committee that within the next few months they will hope to be able identify how things could be changed.

Lead housing officer Derek Slater told councillors: "Clearly trying to ensure that people can get the most suitable accommodation for their needs and that will see some investigations over the coming weeks as to people's requirements.

"Some people do not want a three bedroom flat and we will be looking at offering incentives for letting these on an individual basis.

"The question that is often put is there are not enough houses for large families.

"We will visit everyone in a five or six apartment to see if they are interested in help top to move by offering transfer initiatives.

"There could be people out there that are wanting to downsize which could free up up any bigger properties.

"Under no way would anyone be forced into downsizing, this is purely a mechanism that can help us ensure that people are able to access appropriate accommodation."

Committee chair Councillor Linda Erskine, said that this was an area that had caused a lot of discussion in the past and she hoped that by March a lot of information would be gathered that could help make things more manageable.
