COWDENBEATH lit up for Christmas on Friday with the town’s royal party giving High Street a really seasonal look!

The Christmas Lights Switch-On took place at the Green Square on Friday evening, and like at the Civic Week gala parade, the weather gods smiled upon the event.

This year’s Switch-On had a slightly different flow to it and involved a very successful local band.

From 4pm to 5pm Sunset Spirit were playing at the Green Square, then from 5pm to 5.30pm the Cowdenbeath Community Choir continued the musical theme.

Between 5.30pm and 6pm Santa arrived and with a slight change to tradition Santa did not arrive by train. He arrived on a float travelling down Broad Street to the Green Square opposite Partners, then at 6pm the Lights Switch On took place.

Involved was the town’s Junior Citizens of the Year Isla Cattanach and Lee Crawford, and Civic Week princesses, Sydney Leitch and Hannah Little.

This was followed between 6 and 7 with more music from Freebird.

All the way through there were stalls to browse and Cobblers the Clown entertained with Colin Baird as MC.

With a cold by dry evening it was a really good community evening which the Civic Week Committee’s Alex Haddow commented upon: “The weather worked pretty well for us and it was a really great night and we thank everyone who took part.”
