COWDEN go into their vitally important match with Edinburgh City on Saturday in much better fettle after their performance against Annan.
The Blues are one point behind the City side but really should have been ahead of them after a pulsating performance against the mid table Athletic.
Cowdenbeath should really have won their first game of new boss Gary Bollan’s reign but the manager has made it clear that he wants more of the same, at Ainslie Park on Saturday.
The Blue Brazil created six clear openings against Annan, with Brad Smith and Blair Malcolm, outstanding in midfield, but when the goal did come it came from all of 25 yards.
Said Mr Bollan: “The players really showed me tremendous spirit against Annan and created so many chances.
“Indeed, they have set the standard, played really well and should have won the game with a bit to spare, as we had so many opportunities.
“In the second-half we totally dominated and carved them open on several occasions but just could not get the ball in the net until Kyle Miller fired in an excellent 25 yarder.”
He added: “We played with such intensity in the second period and that is what we will need to see at Edinburgh City this Saturday.
“Our aim is to get off the bottom of the table and clearly if we win next weekend we will have achieved that station but we have to look to string a number of good results together to get away from the area.
“I have been pleased with what I have seen in training and I will be having a close look at what we have here before making a decision on how many players we need to strengthen our squad.”
The manager already has brought in centre midfielder Blair Malcolm and he was highly impressive against Annan and he also had a trialist playing on the left wing who made a strong input and the manager indicated he will have another look at him.   He added: “I feel the players showed immense spirit against Annan but we will need shed loads of that in the weeks ahead in our bid to try and get away from the lower reaches of the table.” Kyle Miller got his first goal of the season on Saturday. He said: “We created so many chances and yet it was a long range shot that got us the goal but if you are creating openings goals will come. We know the task we have on Saturday and we need to play with same creativity but perhaps be a bit more solid defensively as a unit.”
