THIS weekend, from Thursday to Saturday November 9 to 11 at 7.30pm nightly, Dunfermline’s Alhambra Theatre is home to the incredible THRILLER LIVE!, a truly blockbusting live show showcasing the songs and talents of the late, great Michael Jackson, the King Of Pop, writes our theatre critic Kerry Black.

What an incredible show! I have seen this show three times over the years and the budget and production values just get bigger and bigger. Also, Jackson’s huge hit catalogue ensures it is a totally different show each time. This is an amazing tribute to a truly unique talent!

The audience was made up of people of all ages and it was fantastic to see young children dancing along to all the hits. In fact it was obvious that some people had three generations of one family all united in their love of Jackson. This is surely the most extravagant, spectacular show I’ve ever seen at The Alhambra. Featuring five main singers, plus a fabulous live band and a dazzling cast of dancers and singers, the stage exploded into life from the minute the show started.

Taking us from Michael’s early Motown years, the amazing cast hurtled us through the different decades and styles of Michael’s career, from disco to soul via Bad to Thriller. With a huge video screen, pyrotechnics and more sequins than you can shake a lycra clad leg at -this was a blistering night.

The glittering and incredibly acrobatic choreography, costumes and set all added to the excitement. At one stage, the video screen showed Michael’s famous white sequinned glove and someone in the audience hilariously yelled out, “He’s alive!”.

While Michael is tragically no longer with us-this show brought the true spirit of his legendary talent to life as it moonwalked through his memories.

With Britt Quentin as Lead Vocalist and Resident Director, you would truly believe you were listening to MJ himself.

Adriana Figueroa was an incredible soloist-she deserved a special prize for dancing down the stairs in a glittering array of high-heeled boots! While Shaquille Maerice Hammans and Rory Taylor both brought their own vocal twists to this touching evening. I especially loved Rory’s rendition of the beautiful ballad, “I’ll Be There”. However, Eddy Lima’s dance talents took the evening to a different level as he astounded the audience with his uncanny portrayal of Michael.

It’s hard to believe that it’s over 30 years since Thriller first erupted into the world. I remember going home early from Johnson’s Disco (which has sadly closed this week), to watch the world premiere of the Thriller video at my mum’s!

While we will never now have the chance to see Michael live, THRILLER LIVE! will ensure we can enjoy his talents forever!
